Last year we held a Zoom service of Tenebrae on Maundy Thursday and, once it was streamed on YouTube, it had nearly 200 views, therefore we would like to have a similar service this year.
Tenebrae is a quiet prelude to Easter Day which helps us identify with the darkness and loss felt by Jesus' followers as they experienced his death. Traditionally held on Maundy Thursday evening, it is just as appropriate on Good Friday morning or afternoon. Some have suggested that this ancient tradition takes us with Jesus as he descends into Sheol to deliver the captives. It also parallels the Exodus when Moses freed the slaves in Egypt.
In order for this to be possible, we need volunteers to read the various readings (12 in all). Each participant will need to be free on Wednesday 31st March, from 8pm onwards on Zoom. They will also need to have a suitable candle available for the recording. Full details can be provided on request. Please contact Rev Peter Hibberts if you can serve the circuit in this way.
Please tune into the 'live' service which will be premiered at 8pm on Maundy Thursday (1st April 2021) on the Newark and Southwell Methodist Circuit YouTube Channel. ( https://www.youtube.com/NewarkSouthwellMethodistCircuit ) It will also be available to 'watch back' at any point afterwards.
